These bulges are often extremely painful due to being surrounded by the somatic nerves and also because blood usually pools up within the hemorrhoid creating something called thrombosis. These types of hemorrhoids usually require surgery to remove because these are the ones that normally get infected and can lead to gangrene.

Once the external hemorrhoids have been addressed by a doctor, the scarring and healing process can actually leave a skin tag that can be annoying and hard to care for. This tag can lead to anal itchiness which can be directly connected with the fact that proper hygiene is a hard thing with this extra skin. As one can see these symptoms are quite obvious and hard to ignore. The quicker one notices, the better it will be so they can take proper action in caring for the hemorrhoids. Many creams and moisturizing/cleansing pads are available at local drug stores; some may cause allergic reactions in some people though.
