What is a Hemorrhoid?
There is no perfect explanation of what exactly a hemorrhoid is. The technical name for hemorrhoids is piles. A hemorrhoid can be best described as a cushion of tissue that resides in the anal canal. This particular canal does contain blood vessels that are there for the sole purpose of supporting the tissue in the anus. The tissue is made up of muscles and fibers and helps the colon properly function.
Some people may be embarrassed to talk about hemorrhoids if they suffer from them but they should rest easy, hemorrhoids are actually a normal occurrence that everyone in the population will experience at some point in their lives. Only about 4% of the population will have problems caused by hemorrhoids. The only time that a hemorrhoid causes an issue is when it becomes inflamed. This inflammation can either occur on the inside of the anal cavity or right outside of the anus. There are different treatments for different types of hemorrhoids.

Men actually are known to suffer from hemorrhoids more than women and the age frame that this usually occurs is in between the age of 45 and 65. There is no scientific explanation as to why a hemorrhoid will enlarge, but some do and have to be surgically removed. This is not always the case and more times than not they can be treated with some at home remedies or creams that are available in any pharmacy. Hemorrhoids mostly occur due to lack of exercise and water, poor diet, constipation, and straining of the muscles.
Women who suffer from hemorrhoids normally do not notice a problem until they become pregnant or after giving birth. During pregnancy hemorrhoids can become an issue due to the hormone imbalance and readjusting to creating a baby! Normally pregnant woman become constipated due to a lack of fiber and not enough water, it is usually suggested that they take a fiber supplement during their pregnancy. Some women may see a prevalence of hemorrhoids after delivery; this is due to the muscle strain that occurs during delivery.
As one can see, this is something that can happen to anyone and is nothing to be embarrassed about. There is a lot of information available online that can help one understand what is going on with their bodies and how to relieve the symptoms. It is suggested to take care of the symptoms as soon as possible so it does not create a larger issue in the long run.
